Florida or Bust!

Now that I've finally posted Keyan's birthday pictures, I probably won't be on blogger for quite some time. Things are busy, busy, busy around here as we prepare for our trip to Florida. That's because our trip entails a lot more than simply packing for a vacation.

For a long time, we have felt that we should move to Florida. But it just never worked out for us. Now that Jonathan has graduated, he has been looking for teaching jobs all over the state of Utah... but nothing has worked out here, either. Which is really surprising since Jonathan has fabulous recommendations, and well... he's a guy. And good male teachers are hard to come by. The school Jonathan currently teaches for would have loved to rehire Jonathan, but cutbacks didn't allow it. In fact, the school had to issue notice of non-renewals for all non-tenured teachers (3 years and under). So, we came up with...

Plan A:
Continue applying for jobs in Utah and hopefully be hired to one before heading out to Florida for the summer... where we would also apply for jobs. If something worked out, Jonathan would return to Utah to pack up our things and move us out. But Jonathan just interviewed his last interview... and things don't look too promising. So, we are considering...

Plan B:
Packing up everything now, not later, and just going. It's a somewhat scary option. And it probably seems crazy to a lot of people to just pack up and move with no knowledge beforehand of what will happen. It would definitely be a leap of faith. And it definitely means that there is lots of packing and getting ready to be done over the next two weeks. Yep, two weeks! Are we nuts? Maybe. But we are continuing down that path until we feel differently :)

Hey Guys...TJ too is having a hard time finding a Teaching position. We are trying to find one in Florida. He's doing middle-high school tho and not elementary ed. There's a teaching job fair in Gainesville on the weekend of June 6th. That's for NE Florida tho. GOod luck in everything. I understand the concept of putting complete faith in the unknown.

Good luck with everything! We are kindof in the same boat. All of johns professor are saying to just move down to the LA area and look for some jobs but I don't dare leave our house here. It is my "safe house" because our rent is so low so I don't want to move unless we have an actual job. At least if you go down there and don't find something right away you and family and old friends as a support system. We would be completely in the dark! Good luck with everything!!!!

Wohoo! Yeah for the move to Florida option! That is scary and brave but things always have a way of working out when you're living right. Opportunities have ways of dropping in your lap when you least expect it. Who would have thought Ben would end up working for Lowell Fuller? But it saved us $100,000 of optometry school debt, he has a much more layed back job, and these last few years have been the best ever and we feel like it would have been so stressful had we started another 4 year degree. Things have a way of working out! Best of luck to you. Look me up when you're here and we'll have lots of fun :)

You guys are livin' right, you'll be just fine! Two weeks is quick, but you'll be so glad that you won't have to come back.

From experience, we took a huge leap of faith staying here in Texas without a job and no family. It's turned out to be the best thing for our family that we could ever imagine!

Heavenly Father cares; you'll be just fine! Good luck--your in my prayers.
