After the baby was born, I could wake up in the morning, get Keyan some breakfast and a drink, turn on a show for him... and then go back to sleep until the baby woke up. Even on days when I was up early to hit the gym, I would sometimes be tired by mid-morning, so I'd go nap with the baby while Keyan ate a snack and watched a show. Whatever the reason behind needing more sleep, we had a good system in place. I didn't feel like a mommy zombie all the time. Alas, that system can no longer exist in this household. I came to that sad realization this morning.
The baby has an ear infection, as do I. Between the two of us, sleep has been poor... making me crave it more and more! So, this morning, I got the babe to sleep and went through the Keyan routine so that I could go back to bed. Couldn't have lasted more than 20 minutes when Keyan came in asking for eggs for breakfast. I tried to delay him with the, "I will when I get up" but he said, "Please, Mommy. Eggs are healthy. I want to be healthy." What was I supposed to say to that? As I'm getting up, Keyan mentions that he already got the eggs out for me. And here's what happens next.
I walk into the kitchen, noticing right off that the rug is not in its normal location. As I start to ask Keyan why the rug is there, I pick it up to return it to its rightful spot, and slimy goo runs off my hand. Keyan: "That's where I broke an egg. But see? (pointing to the rug) I cleaned it up." Of course, the rug didn't catch all of the goo. Because if it did, I wouldn't have stepped in it next. That's when I notice goo all over the kitchen table. Gobs of it! I screamed, "Keyan! Is this egg, too?!" "No, Momma... that's the popsicle I got out. It melted."
Something like this was bound to happen sooner or later, and hey, I had a pretty good run while it lasted. And while this was in no way Keyan's fault... it's obvious that my days of sleeping in are done.

I...am....laughing....still....
ok. I am done but am still smiling! :) That was pretty funny. Yeah...I'd say your days of sleeping in are done for now. How did the clean up go? Hang in there!!
Aw. funny but depressing story. I have the same routine with Noah and now my worry of waking and finding something terrible has just increased... I mean, I always knew it was a possibility and have found marker on a wall a couple times, but nothing too gross or difficult to clean up. Hmmm, sleep vs. possible disaster. I just don't know :)
I'm so sorry. Is this what I have to look forward to? (Please, Henry, just stay zombified in front of the tv....)
Chante, If you talk to your aunt and uncle in College station anytime soon you should ask them about good places to live in apartments or whatever or ask them what area or streets we should stay clear of. We aren't going down there before August so its hard to know where to look for places because we might find something we think is nice but then it could end up being in a terrible location. Do your aunt and uncle like living there?
Don't ever think that you are not a patient and good mommy!! you keep your cool and this shows how well you handle things!!
